Amish ceremonies play a large part in the Amish settlements. Baptism, communion, weddings, and funerals are four of the ceremonies that the Amish perform.
Did you know that the Amish have been around since the 1700’s? The one-room schoolhouses came after the Great Depression. The Amish have a strong Christian belief system. The strict rules for the Amish way of life is called Ordnung. Can you believe the Amish can’t even watch television? Even though, the Amish can’t watch television, sometimes we find them on the Amish news.
Here are some facts about the Amish faith. First, the Amish believe God has called them to a life of faith, humility and service. Second, their beliefs and faith bring the Amish settlements closer together. Amish are educated in Amish schoolhouses and education is essential to the livelihood of each Amish settlement. Some still learn in one-room Amish schoolhouses. You will learn about the Amish family life, their clothing and their work. Amish youth go through a period called Rumspringa. Amish don’t always agree with our government but some do voice their opinion by voting. To top it all off, I have some awesome Amish books you can check out.
